Each quarterly issue of the Transformer is now being written by a different local AVP group around a theme of their choosing.
Local groups are encouraged to take on responsibility for an edition.
Editorial Coordinator Pat Hardy works with the group to select their theme and receives their copy and prepares it for graphic design.
Individual Instructions
Articles, photos and artwork are always welcome, especially around topics related to the themes of upcoming issues.

AVP USA the Transformer Newsletter Editorial Guidelines
|
| 1- |
Each Issue Editor will set the Theme with the Editorial coordinator (Pat Hardy) and
other Issue Editors for upcoming year. |
| 2- |
Copy material should represent several areas where possible. (These are taken in order of their preference from a recent survey):
| a. |
Stories/hints about workshops from outside and inside facilitators |
| b. |
New exercises (allow one page so it can readily copied and put in a manual)
/L&Ls or tweaking of existing exercises |
| c. |
Ethical issues on facilitation |
| d. |
Hints on working with prison staff |
| e. |
Information on how a local council functions, handles problems |
| f. |
AVP USA activities (this can be handled by the editorial coordinator) |
| g. |
Each article should have a very small 10-25word bio on the writer. |
|
| 3- |
Copy should be submitted electronically, single-space in Word with each article in a
separate document to AVPpat@earthlink.net
| a. |
Do not attempt to layout the copy. It only makes it more difficult for the
graphics design. For paragraphs, merely hit the RETURN on your computer, no need to indent. |
| b. |
Use one typeface/font |
| c. |
If you wish a section to be a sidebar in a box, then type in that request but don't put in a box |
| d. |
Commas, periods, exclamation points should have only one space after them.
e. If you have a chart, put it in Excel and the publisher will convert it. |
|
| 4- |
Feel free to assign headlines and use sub-heads for sections in articles for easier
reading, but no need to change the typeface or capitalize to show this. The graphics person will figure that out. If you don't use sub-heads, we will create them in long articles. |
| 5- |
Providing high quality, reproducible art or photos that augment the articles is highly recommended. Submitting it electronically is preferred. If you can get it scanned locally that is preferred.
|
Word Count: You have eight pages for copy and photos. You have no more than 5000
words, to allow for including photos and art. You are encouraged to provide photos and
drawings. Do not feel you need to fill the newsletter. We have things we save for when we
have extra space.
There are approximately 650 words per page. For each inch used by graphics in one column we lose about 54 words.
|
Please submit photos or artwork with article submissions if possible. The preferred method is as an attachment to an email. Preferred formats are as .jpg files, .jpeg files, & .gif files.
If you do not have email capability or access to putting the material on a disc, then submissions and any accompanying materials may be mailed to:
the Transformer P.O. Box 3294 Santa Barbara, CA 93130
If postal mailing is used, please do not expect to have your written materials returned.
At the risk of sounding heartless, we cannot guarantee that articles submitted will be published or that the volunteers involved in the compiling of the Transformer will communicate with you regarding this.
